Our Philosophy
Creating experiences to last a lifetime through partnerships, respect and education.
Partnerships:
➢ Educators and Staff will work in partnership with families, support them in their parenting, and encourage them to actively participate within the Centre.
➢ Parents, children, staff and Educators are vital to the running of the centre and its program, and all are encouraged to work with Educators to make learning meaningful
➢ Creating partnerships through celebrating the unique contributions that Educators, children and families make to the centre, is embraced.
➢ Families are welcome to visit at a time that is comfortable and convenient to them and their child. ➢ Families are invited to take part in the decision making process and also in the formulation and review of Centre policies.
➢ SCUCC is an integral part of the wider local community and Southern Cross University.
Respect:
➢ We acknowledge the indigenous owners and custodians of the lands of Australia. SCUCC is in Widjabul Country, part of the Bundjalung Nation and we honour the Elders past and present. We aim to treat all indigenous people, their customs and beliefs with respect.
➢ Equality and inclusion is a focus for our centre. All families belong to the centre with identical rights and are entitled to equal respect for their diversity in terms of family background, additional needs, gender, religious beliefs and other forms of cultural identity.
➢ SCUCC supports procedural fairness and natural justice concepts for all.
➢ Children are all unique and deserve to be treated respectfully, and to feel safe, secure and supported at all times.
➢ SCUCC encourages staff to be responsive to the needs and concerns of families and their children; thus helping to develop and refine our service and its practices and procedures.
➢ Educators and Staff value team work, believe in open communication and collaboration of ideas, thoughts and knowledge. Respecting one another and another person’s point of view will ensure the smooth running of the Centre.
➢ Appropriate regard for confidentiality is maintained at all times.
➢ Educators and Staff can expect to receive recognition, support and acknowledgment of the work they are doing.
➢ All children and families will be respected in accordance to the Code of Ethics.
Education:
➢ We acknowledge that major learning for children occurs in the home, and recognise that families are children’s first and most influential teachers.
➢ Children learn and develop at their own pace through play, firsthand experience, modeling, interacting with mixed ages and through using their imagination. Educators and Staff value the importance of play, recognising how children learn and facilitating this through everyday experiences.
➢ Through learning we can contribute to sustainability: recycling, being water wise, reducing waste and many other activities. The involvement of children, parents and Educators is important in developing an awareness of the impact of human activity on environments and the interdependence of living things. Creating awareness of the environment will aid us as a community to become socially responsible.
➢ Children will be guided to understand and deal appropriately with their feelings and conflict situations. Assisted to demonstrate an increasing awareness of needs and rights of others and foster children’s self-esteem.
